Kenneth J. Uhing

HARTINGTON — Kenneth J. Uhing, 88, Hartington, died Dec. 22, 2019, at Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge.

Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 27 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee, with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating.

Burial was at St. Boniface Cemetery, Menominee, with military rites by the Wynot American Legion Post 31, and American Legion Riders.

Visitation and a Vigil service were Thursday at the church, and continued one hour prior to services at church Friday. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Pallbearers were grandsons Nick Kleinschmit, Austin Uhing, Travis Luhr, Kyle Uhing, Kenneth Schroeder, Colton Uhing, Nathaniel Kemper, and Zachary Uhing, and granddaughter Kristie Steffen.

Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Kenneth John Uhing was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Hartington, to William A. and Bernadine L. (Frigge) Uhing. He grew up in the Wynot and St. James area, graduating from Wynot High School in 1949. Kenneth worked on the family farm prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army, serving from 1952-1954. He served 13 months in Korea. While in the Army Kenneth was a member of the 8-Inch Highcore Fire Direction Artillery Division.

Ken married Dolorita Ida Kleinschmit Nov. 7, 1955, in Menominee. Nine children were born to this union. Ken continued to farm, until his health prevented him from doing so.

Kenneth was a member of Holy Family Parish and a former member of Sts. Philip and James Parish, St. James.

He served on the parish and school boards for St. James and Cedar Catholic schools. He also served on the boards for Farmers Union Coop and Wynot Rural Fire District. Ken was an EME and was a member of the Hartington VFW post 5283, the Wynot American Legion Post 31, and Bow Valley Park Association.

He and Dolorita loved square dancing and ballroom dancing.

Ken is survived by his wife, Dolorita, Hartington; nine children and spouses, Debra (Kevin) Kleinschmit, Menominee; Marsha (Kevin) Bonner, Madison; Kenneth D. Uhing, Brighton, Colo.; Kathy (Terry) Luhr, Omaha; Kevin (Sandy) Uhing, Hartington; Sheryl (Roger) Schroeder, Yankton, S.D.; Gerard (Diane) Uhing, Pilger; Lisa (Mark) Kemper, Eagle; Scott (Cindy) Uhing, Lincoln;34 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Jeanette Whitney, Guthrie Center, Iowa; Jolene (John) Manino, Omaha; Claudette Wieseler, Omaha; Joyce Salvatori, Omaha; Janice (Jack) Meyer, Omaha; sisters-in-law, Cleopha Uhing, Yankton, S.D.; and Janita Uhing, Crofton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Stella Goeken and Elaine Ingberg; brothers, Robert and Bill Uhing; and grandson, Joshua Uhing.
