Judge rejects motion for reduced bond
HARTINGTON — Kevin Haug’s request for a bond reduction was turned down Monday by Dist. Court Judge Bryan Meismer.
Haug, who is awaiting sentencing on a July 2, 2019 incident in Fordyce that resulted in the stabbing of one man and a multi-state police chase, had asked that his $1 million bond be reduced so he could visit his parents who are “experiencing health concerns,” Haug’s attorney wrote in the bond-reduction motion.
Judge Meismer rejected the argument, however, saying Haug could endanger the public if he were allowed out.
Haug had originally been charged with eight felonies, including two counts of attempted murder. Those charges were reduced in a plea bargain agreement, though. He will be sentenced on July 22.
