John A. Uhing

GARDINER, Maine — John A. Uhing, Gardiner, Maine, originally from Wynot, died unexpectedly at his home in Gardiner, at the age of 51 years. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m, April 7, preceded by visitation with family present at 9 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Holy Family Parish), Wynot. Burial with military honors will be held at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, immediately after the service. Following his graduation from Wynot High School in 1986, John served 20 years in the U.S. Navy in Illinois, California, Italy, Iceland, Japan, Texas, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Maine as a corpsman and an X-ray technician. He retired to Gardiner, and spent his time reading, hunting, woodcarving and caring for his three beloved dogs, Rosie, Harley and Lily. He was preceded in death by his fiancée, Dawn Ruszczyk; his grandparents; his mother, Gail Uhing; brother, Joey; sister, Jeanie; brother-in-law, Tito Galvez; nieces, Candace and Kirsten; and other unnamed angels who died prior to birth. His kind nature and wacky sense of humor will be missed by his father, Francis Uhing, Wynot; brother, Gerry, and his wife, Shelly (Johnson), South Sioux City; sister, Lori, and husband, Joe Steffen, Roseville, Minn.; sister, Lynette, and husband, Ron Richardson, Anoka, Minn.; sister, Deb Galvez, St Cloud, Minn.; nephews, Noah Uhing and Josh Galvez; nieces, Katie and Brittany Galvez, Brileigh Uhing, Ashley and Guinevere Richardson, and Nichelle, Joanna and Allie Steffen; and his Maine family, Ruth Guilmette, Gardiner, Maine, and Barbara Ruszczyk and Victoria Stevens, Harpswell, Maine.
