TALENT, Ore.— John Schmidt, 85, Talent, Ore., died Sept. 24, 2019, in Medford, Ore. Funeral services were Oct. 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Medford, with Rev. Ken Sampson officiating. Vigil Services were Oct. 14 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment was in Perl Memorial Gardens, Medford. Services were under the direction of Perl Funeral Home. Medford. John was born May 19, 1934, in Hartington, to John Peter Schmidt and Anna Stevens. He married Lois Schmidt Aug. 7, 1960, in Laramie, Wyo. John had an exciting career working as an electronic engineer for the Naval Research Laboratory and other government agencies. Some of his favorite memories were of flying in airplanes collecting data, traveling all over the world. In 1994, he retired from John Stennis Space Center, a NASA rocket testing facility located in Hancock County, Miss. John is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Kathy Carraway, Medford, Ore.; a sister, Clare Schmidt, and a brother, Mark Schmidt, both of Hartington; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, David Schmidt, 1991, and Randy Schmidt, 2005. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
