John Clyde Jansen

FORDYCE — John Clyde Jansen, 62, Fordyce, died March 8, 2018, at the Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. Visitation and a Vigil Service were Sunday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee, and continued Monday at the church. Mass of Christian Burial was March 12 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial was in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Menominee. Pallbearers were Ken Jansen, Delbert Jansen, Melvin Jansen, Craig Jansen, Jesse Jansen, Ron Joslin and Ken Keagan. The Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, was in charge of arrangements. John was born July 14, 1955, in Yankton, S.D., to Leonard Christopher and Mary Wilhelmina (Feilmeier) Jansen. He grew up in the Fordyce and Menominee area and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 1973. He worked for Dennis Schieffer Masonry after high school. John married Phyllis A. Wiepen April 16, 1977, in St. Helena. After their marriage, John continued to farm in the Fordyce and Menominee area, while also continuing his brick laying profession at John Jansen Masonry. John was a member of the St Boniface Catholic Church and served as a trustee on the parish council. He was a former member of the Board of Directors for the Fordyce Coop and also was a former member of the West Catholic School Board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a strong supporter of Catholic education. John enjoyed hunting and fishing with his Jansen brothers, playing cards, Sunday drives, Allis Chalmers tractors, traveling with his wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren. John is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jansen, Fordyce; three children, Jackie and Ernest Lockett and their children, Easton and Emerson (arriving in 10 weeks), Moore, Okla.; Justin and Stephanie Jansen and their children, Lexi, Paisley and Keaton, Elk Point, S.D.; and Jill and Chris Senior, San Diego, Calif.; nine siblings, Doris Hochstein, Bow Valley; Ken Jansen, Omaha; Delbert Jansen, Crofton; Mavis and John Mines, Norfolk; Melvin and Sharon Jansen, Menominee; Bette and Clayton Heimes, St. Helena; Leonarda and Joe Arens, Crofton; Gail Milander, Hartington; LuAnn and Mike Steffen, Laurel; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Jansen, Crofton; parents-in-law, Alphonse and Gertrude Wiepen, Coleridge; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mary Jansen; three infant sisters, Arlene, Nadine and Rosemary Jansen; a brother, Vern Jansen; and three brothers-in-law, Duane Wiepen, Gary Hochstein and Doug Milander.
