Joanie was born March 24, 1956, to Gerald and Irene Kleinschmit in Yankton, S.D. She grew up near Bow Valley, with seven brothers and two sisters. She was especially close to the two youngest boys, spending countless hours playing house and climbing around old cars back in their trees. One day, while working in the kitchen at Hillside, her soulmate entered the café and worked up the courage to ask her out. Daryl and Joan have been best friends ever since. They shared 45 years together creating a beautiful family of their own.

Joan lived a life of love and service to others. She provided selfless care for 36 years to the dear sisters at the Sacred Heart Monastery, Yankton. They were always in her heart. She also had a special way with babies and doted on all of her grandchildren. There was nothing she couldn’t do, from sewing Halloween costumes for her children, to swinging a hammer. She loved being outdoors and spent long hours gardening and making her home as beautiful as she was.

Joan is survived by her husband, Daryl; four daughters and spouses, Sonya and Gary Kathol, Scottsdale, Ariz.; April and Jake LeFebvere, Yankton, S.D.; Robin Lammers, Omaha; Dawn and Lucas Lauer, Hartington; and son, Daryl Lammers, Sioux Falls, S.D.; eight grandsons and seven granddaughters; five brothers and spouses, Dennis and Pat Kleinschmit, Yankton, S.D.; Jerry and Sharon Kleinschmit, Yankton, S.D.; Clinton and Chevonne Kleinschmit, Madison, S.D.; Roman Kleinschmit, Fordyce; Dale and Sandy Kleinschmit, Norfolk; sister, Eileen Kusel, Hartington; and sisters-in-law, Connie Kleinschmit, Wichita, Kan., and Carolyn Kleinschmit, Menominee.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved firstborn, Arlan; precious baby granddaughter, Diva; siblings, Charles Kleinschmit, Ronald Kleinschmit and Dorothy Kleinschmit; brother-inlaw, Wylie Kusel; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Kleinschmit.
