LAUREL - Jewell G. Nelson, 88, Laurel, died Feb. 4, 2021, at Providence Medical Center, Wayne.

Graveside services will be held at a later date in the spring of 2021. Burial of her cremated remains will be at the Maskell Cemetery, Maskell.

Jewell Genevieve was born Nov. 20, 1932, in Maskell, to Joseph Martin and Cora Genevieve (Pederson) Nelson. She moved to Laurel in 1934, and attended elementary school at Logan Center. Jewell’s mother died in 1941. Jewell and her sister, Eunice, moved to a farm near Coleridge in 1944. Jewell graduated from Coleridge High School as the Salutatorian of her class. It was during the winter of 1948, that Jewell lived with the Frerichs family for six months during the winter because of all the snow that fell that year. Jewell and her sister, Eunice, began farming together and continued this lifelong career of 75 years until just a week before she died. She and Eunice raised chickens, hogs, fat cattle, milked cows, and raised grain, corn and beans.

Jewell is survived by her brother, Calvin (Karen) Nelson, Laguna Beach, Calif.; niece, Kristi (Andy) Williamson, Chapel Hill, N.C., and their children, Aaron and Noah; niece, Michelle (Pete) Aleshire, Payson, Ariz., and their children, Brooke (Kubby), Fairbanks, Alaska, and Crystal (Kubby), Tempe, Ariz.

Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Cora Nelson; and sister, Eunice Nelson, April 4, 2020, at the age of 91.
