Janice Lee Brockman

HARTINGTON — Janice Lee Brockman, 80, Hartington, died Jan. 24, 2019, at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center, Hartington.

Visitation was one hour prior to services Tuesday.

A Memorial Service was held Jan. 29 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, with Rev. Amanda Talley officiating.

Burial of her cremated remains will be in the Coleridge City Cemetery at a later date.

The Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington assisted with the arrangements.

Janice was born Jan. 26, 1938, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Wesley Develo and Louise Elizabeth (Lee) Butler. She grew up in Ponca, graduating from Ponca High School in 1956. She worked in the Lutheran Hospital, Sioux City, until she married Cleone Gibbins in Ponca March 1960. After he died in a car accident, Janice moved to South Sioux City. She received training at Western Iowa Tech to be an OB Tech. She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Obstetrics department until she married LaVern Brockman May 8, 1976, in Hartington. They made their home on a farm east of Hartington. Janice worked in the cafeteria at the Hartington Public School for 12 years and then in the meat department at Food Town, Hartington, for 12 years, retiring in March 2017.

Janice was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington. She always had a big garden and liked to read and work puzzles.

Janice is survived by her son, Kevin and Carolyn Butler, Dakota Dunes, S.D.; two grandsons, Brett Ransford, Marshall, Minn., and Randy and Christina Ransford, Sioux City, Iowa; five greatgrandchildren, and a brother-in-law, Dwayne Smith, Oklahoma City, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, LaVern, Nov. 19, 2005, at the age of 79; a son, David Gibbins; sister-in-law, Faye Smith; and a brother–in-law and sister-in-law, Fern and Herb Miller.
