Janet L. Albers
HARTINGTON — Janet L. Albers, 71, Hartington, died Jan. 27, 2019, at her residence after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Visitation and a Vigil service were Jan. 30 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, and continued Thursday one hour prior to services.
Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 31 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating.
Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington.
Pallbearers were her 10 grandsons, Taylor Kathol, Sean Kathol, Tristan Albers, Konner Albers, Parker Albers, Spencer Albers, Nash Albers, Karsan Albers, Andrew Jones, and Jackson Jones. Honorary pallbearers were her two granddaughters, Katy Jones and Reese Albers.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Janet Laura Albers was born Oct. 14, 1947, in Yankton, S.D., to Ludwig Frank and Dorothy Grace (Jones) Heine. She grew up in the Bow Valley area and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 1965. Janet was recognized as the Valedictorian of her class of 1965 and was also the Homecoming Queen her senior year. Janet married the love of her life, Charles R. Albers Sept.16, 1967, in Bow Valley. Together, they lived and worked on a dairy farm west of Hartington until moving into Hartington in 2010.
After high school, Janet started working for Max Goetz’s Attorney office as a secretary and worked there until the day before her first child, Amy, was born. After raising her family of four children, Amy, Todd, Russ and Becky, she went to work at the courthouse for a short time. In 1989, Janet began work as an accountant at REA, Cedar Knox Public Power, and spent the next 27 years there. Janet retired from Cedar Knox Jan. 13, 2016, and continued to help with their budgeting until recently. During retirement, Janet kept busy cleaning the Holy Trinity Pre-School building and Holy Trinity Rectory.
Janet was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She served as an accompanist for parish Masses and did the Liturgical planning for all Masses. Janet also accompanied many weddings and countless funerals over the years. She felt so honored to be part of both. Together with Chuck, she kept an hour of Perpetual Adoration for 48 years. She was a member of the Ladies Guild, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Daughters of America.
Janet loved her garden and raising fresh food for her family. She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, and tending to her flowers. One of Janet’s greatest joys was supporting her grandchildren in all of their activities. Janet loved her friendships that started from her early years of card club, and was a big supporter of Holy Trinity and CCHS activities.
Janet is survived by her husband, Chuck, Hartington; four children and spouses Amy (Terry) Kathol, Lincoln; Todd Albers, Hartington; Russ (Brooke) Albers, Hartington; Becky (Matt) Jones, Wayne; 12 grandchildren; her mother, Dorothy Heine, Hartington; seven siblings and spouses, Jerry (Deb) Heine, Hartington; Marilyn (Bob) Lyngstad, Volin, S.D.; Barb (Mike) Everard, Arvada, Colo.; Bruce (Sue) Heine, Dallas, Texas; Carol (Juan) Cardona, Sioux City, Iowa; Steve (Carrie) Heine, Wynot; Sue (Gene) Dickes, Hartington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Jeff, Aug. 23,
