James A. “Jim” Eickhoff

HARTINGTON — James A. “Jim” Eickhoff, 87, Hartington, died June 21, 2019, at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation and a vigil service were Monday at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington and continued one hour prior to services Tuesday.

Funeral Services were June 25 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating.

Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington, with military rites provided by the Hartington VFW Post

5283 and the Hartington American Legion Post #4.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Pallbearers were Rollie Eickhoff, Mark Eickhoff, Bill Eickhoff, David Eickhoff, Larry Eickhoff and Brian Pinkelman.

James Allen Eickhoff was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Hartington, to Martin and Cecilia (Becker) Eickhoff. He was the oldest of ten children. Jim attended three different country grade schools and Holy Trinity High School. He moved to California where he met his wife, Sheila (Houde) Eickhoff. The two were married Sept. 28, 1996, at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Maywood, Calif. While living in California, Jim worked for the Pacific Telephone Company until returning to the good earth of farming in Nebraska. Jim served in the United States Army from 1952 – 1954 and he was a member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Eickhoff, Hartington; brothers Rollie and Bev Eickhoff and family, Kearney; Norman and Daisy Eickhoff and family, Tucson, Ariz.; Sidney Eickhoff, Centreville, Va.; Mark and Carol Eickhoff and family, Westerville, Ohio; Bill and Julie Eickhoff and family, Hemingford; David Eickhoff, Yankton, S.D.; Larry and Catherine Eickhoff and family, Sioux Falls, S.D.; sisters, Judy Pinkelman and family, Hartington; and Mary Jean & Rod Pinkelman and family, Plymouth, Minn.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Susan Eickhoff; and brother-in-law, Gary Pinkelman.
