Jacqueline Sue Paine

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Jacqueline Sue Paine, 77, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt died June 10, 2023, following a brief illness.

A celebration of life service will be held July 3, at 2 p.m., in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Elks Lodge.

Jacqueline Sue Paine was born Sept. 16, 1945, in Randolph, the youngest of five children to John and Irene Kelsch. She attended high school at St. Francis Catholic School and graduated from Kearney State College, Kearney, with a bachelor’s degree in education. During her summertime breaks, Sue worked with her parents at their resort in Waubay, S.D., where she developed her love for swimming.

Sue met and married Ronald Paine, Kearney, in 1967, while in college. Together they pursued Ron’s military aviation career, taking them to several stops throughout the country. Sue was committed to supporting Ron’s career while raising their two children, Brett and Kimberly. They ultimately settled in Colorado Springs, Colo., to raise their family after Ron’s retirement.

Sue is survived by her son, Brett Paine, and daughter, Kimberly Paine, Castle Rock, Colo. She is also survived by her loving grandson, Brayden.

Preceding her in death are her parents, John and Irene Kelsch; brother, Rudy Kelsch; and sister, Reva Jean Gartner.

Surviving siblings include, Marian Gubbels, Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Rick Kelsch, DFW, Texas.

Over the years, Sue enjoyed gardening, bowling, bird-watching and her beloved dog companions. Sue loved family gatherings and embraced being the life of the party.
