Irene English Lammers

HARTINGTON — Irene English Lammers, 88, Hartington, died Feb. 9, 2022, at Avera Sister James Nursing Home, Yankton, S.D.

Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 12 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fordyce, with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial was at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Fordyce.

Visitation and a vigil service were Friday, at church, and continued Saturday, at church, one hour prior to services.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Services were also livestreamed at www.facebook. com/WintzRay/live

Pallbearers were Sam Brink, Phil Lammers, Mike Lammers, Tony Lammers, P Lammers, Greg Lammers and Vince Lamme

Irene Luise was born Dec. 11, 1933, in Munich, Germany, to Wilhelm Johann and Sophia Rose (Eckert) Lutzenberger. She grew up in Munich and graduated from Luise High School in Munich. Irene married Bernard English July 2, 1954, in Munich. They moved to Wood River in 1956, where she worked as a waitress and as a dental assistant for several years. She received her cosmetology license then. Irene did a lot of volunteer work at the nursing home and helped build the Senior Citizens Center in Wood River and Lincoln. She was also involved in the Girl Scouting program. They moved to Lincoln in 1980, and then to Omaha in 1999. Her husband Bernard died Dec. 24, 1999. Irene then met Cyril Lammers and they were married July 21, 2001, in Fordyce. Irene and Cyril moved into Hartington in 2012.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist parish, Fordyce, and the Christian Mothers.

Irene is survived by her husband, Cyril Lammers, Hartington; daughter, Deborah Brink, Omaha; grandson, Sam Brink, Omaha; and three greatgrandchildren, Lexi, Tavyn and Greyson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard English; son-in-law, Fred Brink; three brothers and two sisters.
