Humanities speaker to explore children’s role in western expansion of U.S. settlement

HARTINGTON — Renae Hunt Nebraska Humanities Council speaker will present a program entitled Overland Trails: The Children on the Trail, at the Hartington Public Library, 7 p.m., Oct. 21.
With over 352,000 emigrants traveling the Oregon, Mormon or California trails, one in five were under the age of 16. Many of these youth kept journals. This program discusses how these children traveled and relates some of the stories from their journals.
