Holy Trinity campaign is in final stages

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Holy Trinity Catholic Church is hoping to wrap up a fund-raising campaign this summer.

The $1.6 million campaign began last July as an effort to accomplish three goals:

• eliminate the debt acquired when Cedar Catholic updated its heating and cooling system, which included a complete electrical system update and a remodeling project.

• bring the school’s antiquated busses up to date.

• establish a contingency fund for the church and school.

Holy Trinity Pastor Fr. Owen Korte said the campaign was launched because the Steering Committee saw it as the best option to take care of some pressing concerns.

The busses have been on a wish list for quite some time, Fr. Korte said.

“All of the route busses are older than any of the kids riding on them,” he said.

The Cedar Catholic construction project began as a heating and cooling system update. In order to get a new system installed, however, upgrades to the school’s electrical system had to be made. Updates to the building itself also had to be made in order to bring the facility up to fire code.

Fund-raising for the heating and cooling project began in 2007 when an anonymous donor stepped up to donate a vehicle to be raffled off. To date, 12 vehicles have been donated for the raffles, which have brought in $1.6 million.

To date, 58 percent of the goal — over $900,000 —has been raised in gifts and pledges. Fr. Korte said he would like to have commitments for the final $700,000 by the end of July.

Cedar County Catholic Schools Development Coordinator Joani Potts said her group has several awareness campaigns planned to make people aware of this final push to complete the fund-raising campaign.

“We have some fun things planned over the next month or so,” she said.

Potts said she is very thankful for the generous response this campaign has received so far.

“The way the economy is, and even with the late harvest, we’ve had a great response. People have been so generous,” she said.  “When I look back on the last 10 months, it’s been just incredible how people have stepped up.”
