Posted in:

ELGIN - Eric Hoesing placed third and Turner Korth placed fourth at the Elgin Public/Pope John Wrestling Invite on Saturday.

Cedar Catholic placed 17th out
of 22 teams. Hoesing, Korth, and Kerby Hochstein scored points for the Trocats. Neither Carson Jones nor Conner Hochstein earned points from their matches. Nash Albers was out with an injury, and Ethan and Morgan Koch were both absent from the match on Saturday.

Hoesing started his day with a bye in the first round before winning his second match over Wyatt Haverluck
of Meridian in a 9-2 decision. Hoesing would next be pinned in the semifinals to the eventual champion in the 182-pound weight class, Ethan Villwok of Archbishop Bergan. Hoesing would rebound from the loss though, winning his next two matches by decision to finish in third place at the EPPJ Invite. Hoesing is 7-2 on the year.

Korth wrestled at 152 pounds this week, after competing at 145 in Stan- ton the week before. Korth started his day with a bye and then pinned Trace Ebert of North Central in the quarterfinal round. Korth would be pinned
in the semis by Colby Coons of Twin Loup. Korth would respond in the next round with a sudden victory-1 win over Taylor Lautenschlager of Doniphan- an-Trumbull. It was then a competition between Cedar County wrestlers for third place. Brandon Bloomquist
of Randolph won in a 10-7 decision, and Korth would finish his day with a fourth-place finish. Korth is 6-3 on the year.

Kerby Hochstein earned seven points for Cedar Catholic but did not place in the 132-pound division. Hoch- stein started his day pinning Alexander Johnson of Pender in 17 seconds. The quickest pin in Cedar history is
by Patrick Hoesing in eight seconds. Hochstein then was pinned in the quarterfinals by Jared Shaw of North Central. Shaw finished in fourth place on the day. Hochstein then pinned Owen Pruss of Archbishop Bergan in the second consolation round, but
he would be pinned by EPPJ’s Luke Henn in the next round to end his day. Hochstein is 6-3 on the year so far.

Carson Jones was pinned twice in the 106-pound weight class. He started his day against Nolan Osborn of Twin Loup and was pinned 2:21 into the match. Jones then fell to Jackson Strain of Twin River, being pinned 3:53 into the match.

Conner Hochstein competed at 138 pounds. He was pinned by Cole Laible of West Holt to start the day. Hochstein’s day finished in the next round when he was pinned by Jaden VanDiest of Twin Loup.

Cedar Catholic has yet to wrestle with a full roster.

At Stanton Ethan Koch was absent, nursing a knee injury, and last weekend three Cedar wrestlers were unavailable.

The Trocats next take to the mat on Thursday when the team travels to West Point-Beemer for a dual match. The team’s next Invite is at Pierce on Dec. 29.
