HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic’s Kirby Hochstein hit a big milestone at last week’s Pierce Invitational.
The Cedar Catholic senior became only the second wrestler in school history to notch over 100 career victories.
He also ended his day with a silver medal in the 132-pound weight class.
Hochstein started his day with a 7-0 win over Pierce’s Zach Meier. He then earned a 7-4 decision over Ryder Keenan of Logan View in his next match and a 3-2 decision over Blake Bolling of Pierce in the semifinals.
Hochstein ended up on his back late in the first period during a tough battle with Johnny Scarlett of Central City in the championship match.
Hochstein ended the day with a 9-4 season record.
In other action at Pierce, Cole Steffensen also competed in the 132-pound class. He earned a first-round bye, then lost a firstperiod pin in his next match to Johnny Scarlett of Central City. He ended up losing in the third period of his next match against a Logan-Magnolia, Iowa wrestler. Nash Albers competed in the 145-pound division. He also had a quick day, though, losing his first two matches.
Conner Hochstein started his day off with an 8-6 decision over Quad County Northeast’s Nolan Ohlrich in the 152-pound division.
He then lost by a technical fall to Logan-Magnolia’s Reisz, who went on to earn the gold. Hochstein bounced back to earn the fourthplace medal.
Hochstein battled oncebeaten Tanner Schneiderheinz of Central City in the thirdplace match, losing early in the second period.
Hochstein completed the day with an 18-7 season record.
The local team will be in action again Saturday, when they travel to Winside for another tournament. They will take part in a triangular with Crofton-Bloomfield and West Holt Jan. 14.
