Hochstein earns gold at Howells meet
HOWELLS — Cedar Catholic’s Kerby Hochstein earned a gold medal at Saturday’s Howells-Dodge Invitational.
Cedar Catholic finished the day in fifth place as a team.
Millard South claimed the team title with 152.5 team points, followed by Archbishop Bergan (140), Howells-Dodge (83), Summerland (74) and Cedar Catholic (70).
Cedar had a great opening-season tourney, placing six wrestlers on the medal stand.
Eric Hoesing ended the day with a silver medal in the 182-pound weight class.
Keegan Carl finished his first-ever varsity tournament with a bronze medal in the 106-pound weight class. Another wrestling newcomer, senior Jacob Keiser, also earned a bronze medal in his first-ever varsity tournament.
Conner Hochstein earned his way into the third-place match, but fell to Fremont Bergan’s Kade McIntyre in the third-place match and had to settle for fourth place. Nash Albers fell to Wakefield-Allen’s Gabe Lamprecht in the fifth-place match.
