Posted in:

STANTON — O’Neill pulled away in the final frame to earn a 37-35 win over Hartington-Newcastle in the Stanton Holiday Tournament action here.

The Wildcat offense was led by Shaye Morten and Matthew Meisenheimer who dropped in 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Landon Classen scored 14 points to help O’Neill earn the two-point win over HNS in Friday’s opening round game.

O’Neill jumped out to an early 9-5 lead, but the Cats came back in the second frame to earn a 10-5 scoring advantage and take a narrow 10-14 lead into the locker room.

HNS put together an 11-8 third-quarter scoring run to extend their lead to 26-22 heading into the final frame. The Eagles came charging back in the final frame to outscore the Cats 15-9 and claim the come-from-behind win.

The loss dropped HNS into consolation round action against Stanton.

The second-round games were pushed to Monday because of the forecast for bad weather.

The Cedar County News’ Holiday deadline did not allow for a report on Monday’s game. Information on that game can be found at www.Hartington.netand in the next Cedar County News print edition.
