HNS teams pull rare double to claim Classic titles

HARTINGTON - A transformation through winter break has the Hartington-Newcastle boys’ basketball team looking like a whole new team.

After winning the Stanton Holiday Tournament, defeating West Holt and O’Neill, the Wildcats then hosted the Hartington Classic Tournament to start 2019.

HNS would defeat Bloomfield on the road and Wynot at home to take home the title. Hartington-Newcastle last won their own tournament in 2015.

More importantly though, it is only the second time in tournament history - dating back to 1991 - that both the HNS boys and girls teams won the tournament in the same year. The first time was back in 2003.

HNS blew past Bloomfield to start the tournament, winning 53-32.
