Noecker wins conference title

BLOOMFIELD — Carson Noecker never likes to feel like he didn’t give it 100 percent effort.

The Hartington-Newcastle cross country runner gave it his all last week to stay undefeated on the year, by winning the Lewis and Clark Conference race in record-setting time.

He wasn’t the only HNS runner to excel, either.

Parker Albers crossed the finish line in eighth place, while Riley Kuehn trailed him in 14th and Alan Santiago placed 21st. The strong Hartington-Newcastle finishes gave the Wildcats the conference boys runner-up trophy. Wausa-Bloomfield claimed the L&C team title for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.

The HNS girls also had an excellent outing with three Top 10 finishes and a Top 20 finish to also earn L&C Conference team runner-up honors.

Sara Burbach led the girls team with an eighth-place finish. Jessica Opfer finished a few steps behind her in ninth, while Makenzie Arens was nipping at her heels to finish in 10th Kaydence McCray placed 19th, to help seal the runner-up trophy.
