BEEMER — The Hartington-Newcastle cross country teams brought home five medals from the Wisner- Pilger Invitational held at Indian Trails Country Club near Beemer on Aug. 31, with both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats winding up fourth in the meet in their respective divisions.

Pender won the girls’ team competition with 14 points, 50 points better than runner-up Elkhorn Valley.

The Falcons won the boys’ team race with 44 points. Battle Creek was second with 55.

“I was happy with fourth place for both teams as large as this meet is,” HNS coach Mandy Hochstein said. “It seems like we are getting better and better each day and each meet.”

The girls’ race had 13 teams while the boys’ race included 16 teams from the area.

Ava Noecker was the top finisher for the Lady Wildcats, placing 10th. Cole Rosener paced the Wildcats, coming in 14th.

“Ava and Cole ran good races and led their teams well,” Hochstein said. “They are strong reliable leaders and get stronger each year.”

Claire Rolfes came in 14th for the Lady Wildcats and Carmen Buschkamp grabbed the last girls’ medal in

20th.

Abby Anderson was 46th, Ryell Haug was 51st and Isabel Rolfes rounded out the Lady Wildcat finishers in 67th.

Kyla Krusemark won the individual girls’ title with a time of 23 minutes,

12.60 seconds.

Following Rosener for the Wildcats was Isaac Hernandez-Santiago, who finished a single spot out of any hard ware in 21st.

“I was impressed with Isaac today finishing just out of the medals," Hochstein said. “With a little more speed at the beginning of the race, I think he will see success this season.”

Adam Elks was 27th, Alex Elks was

38th, Coven Joachimsen was 55th and Aidan Anderson was 64th.

Jaxon Kilsmurry of Battle Creek was

the individual champion in 18:31.10.

Both Hartington-Newcastle teams will be in action on Sept. 7 at the Cedar View Country Club in Laurel.
