HNS girls have easy time in win over Winside

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle girls earned a 50-34 first-round win over Winside in last week’s Classic Tournament.

The HNS girls got off to a great start in this one, racing out to a 22-10 first-quarter lead to set the tone early. Defense took over the rest of the game, though.

Both teams hit for nine points in the second frame to give the Lady Wildcats a 31-19 halftime lead.

The HNS girls outscored Winside, 19-15, over the final 16 minutes to seal the win.

The Purple Cats were paced to the win by the efforts of senior floor general Abbe Morten, who connected for a double-double in the contest.

She dropped in a game-high 25 points, hitting on 53 percent of her field goal attempts, but was only 1-8 from long distance.

Morten also yanked down 10 rebounds and led the team in steals with five.

Kayden Jueden led the team on the boards, pulling down 12 on the night. She also led the team in assists, dishing out four in the contest.
