HNS Board will switch to local bank for credit cards

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Hartington-Newcastle School Board members agreed Monday to move their credit cards to a local bank.

The Board approved a resolution to move their credit cards to the Bank of Hartington.

The school currently uses two different credit card companies, but has decided to consolidate that down to one and bring the business to a local bank.

The cards are only used by Supt. A.J.. Johnson, Principals Corey Uldrich and Sarah Edwards and business manager Tina Opfer. A card is also sent along on long activity trips for gas or emergency use only, Johnson said.

“After doing some research, we discovered we can save on some fees by switching. It’s also nice to be able to work locally,” Johnson said.

Johnson also said Monday a new school bus which was ordered earlier this fall is expected to arrive in Hartington some time in January.

“It is taking a little longer than expected. We are in need of it, now,” Johnson said. “We had a bus with some issues this morning.”

The Board also ordered a new special education van, but no delivery date has been announced on that vehicle, yet. That order has been delayed because of the recent General Motors strike, he said.

Also Monday, Johnson noted that weather cancelation notices will no longer be broadcast on the local cable TV network. With all the new digital ways to get that information out, Hartelco and the schools have decided it would be easier to get the word out through the Hartington School app and on social media, Johnson said.
