Highway 20 lane closures begin

LINCOLN – Highway 20 traffic through Randolph has been reduced to one lane yet again as crews complete repair work.

Work began Monday on a stretch of Highway 20 from the Highway 81 junction to Belden, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Constructors Inc. of Lincoln will be working on pavement repair, new driveways and curb and gutter construction. Traffic will be maintained with a pilot car, flaggers and temporary traffic signals.

The work is expected to wrap up in about a week.

NDOT officials said the work is necessary for mining the safety and integrity of the highway and to prevent further damage.

Motorists are urged to drive cautiously in the work zone.

The bulk of Highway 20 improvements near Randolph started in March 2022 and wrapped up about a year ago.

During this time, the stretch of highway from the Highway 81 junction through to Belden was under construction, controlled by pilot cars or stop lights and down to one lane for months.

The extensive improvements included pavement removal and replacement of the current roadbed within the city limits of Randolph, milling and resurfacing the roadway and new asphalt surfaced shoulders in the rural areas, concrete repairs, bridge repairs and replacement of the bridge over Middle Logan Creek east of Randolph.

New street lights along Highway 20 within Randolph were added as part of the project.

The $16.3 million project encompassed 10 miles.

Constructors Inc., Lincoln is the project contractor.
