WAYNE — The Hartington-Newcastle/Cedar Catholic high schools varsity men’s and women’s bowling teams had their last regular season match Feb. 1 in Wayne.

The Men’s team ended the season on a very high note, winning the meet and tieing with Plainview for second place in the standings.

Team bowlers and their scores were, Colin P, 175, 215, 218 for a 608 series; Wyatt W, 168, 174, 161 for a 503 series; Charlie D, 120, 168, 151, for a 439 series; and Aiden G., 146, 169, 172 for a 487 series.

Individual standings as of Jan 24 were, Wyatt – second,  160 average; Colin – third, 153 average; Aiden – fourth, 150 average; Charlie – 10th, 145 average; JV team bowlers:  Jeremiah Polak and Jack Stevens have also been bowling with other school team members to make a joint junior varsity team for each meet as Hartington did not have enough for a full team.

A very young women’s team has been raising their averages steadily through the season.

They are in sixth place as a team.

They did not bowl Feb. 1 due to several conflicts.

Individual standings include, Rebekah P – 18th with a 108 average; Meredith M – 22nd with a 106 average; Faith P – 28th with a 100 average; Grace K – with a 73 average

The State bowling tournament will take place Feb. 16 at Kings Lanes in Norfolk, starting at 9:30 a.m. Men and women will all bowl at the same time. They will be competing against Wayne, Boone Central, Norfolk Catholic, Plainview and Wisner-Pilger.

This year’s coaches are Mike Emanuel, Nate Holan and Jeff Bruning.
