Help your child learn to ask the right questions

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Questions are powerful tools. Asking rich, thoughtful questions can spark young children’s natural curiosity and open a completely new world of possibility and insight. But what are “big” questions, and how do they encourage children to think deeply?

Nebraska Extension Learning Child Educators, Jackie Steffen and Sarah Roberts, have created a virtual book club for early childhood professionals in northeast Nebraska, “On the Same Page.” During their inaugural launch this fall, members will discover how to meet children at their individual developmental levels and stretch their thinking by reading “Big Questions for Young Minds: Extending Children’s Thinking.”

This virtual book club meets three times— Oct. 6, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. During this time, members will reflect on the assigned readings, learn new concepts and strategies they can apply to their setting, and network with others in their profession. What’s in it for early childhood professionals? Participants will earn four professional development clock hours, receive a free book, and collaborate with peers to discover ways to apply practical high-level strategies in a variety of childcare settings.

Class size is limited and books will be provided. Register online at go.unl.edu/ bigquestions by Aug. 31.
