Helen Pearl Gould was born Aug. 13, 1925, at Laurel, to Albert and Lucille Thompson. She attended rural school at Logan Center District #20 and graduated from Laurel High school. During high school, she won a typing contest at Norfolk – typing 140 words a minute on a manual typewriter. After high school, she moved to Minneapolis, Minn., and worked for a while as a secretary at Montgomery Wards. Upon returning to Laurel, Helen married Howard Gould April 27, 1950, at the Logan Center church. They had three sons, Daniel, Keith and Arlin. As a child receiving Christ as her Lord and Savior, it was Helen’s desire to be a missionary for the Lord and she was that wherever she went. She taught Sunday school and children’s church for many years, Vacation Bible School in the summer and helped in the Logan Center Christmas program – making cellophane colored filters over the spotlights for special effects - of which some kids still asked her about years later. Helen enjoyed teaching Ladies Bible Study groups in the local area in her later years. A vacation highlight was attending Midwest Bible Camp at Watertown, S.D., for their annual week long camp. Helen also appreciated much of the Christian programming on TV and radio, supporting many causes proclaiming the gospel. Her hobbies included stamp collecting, and she really enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Helen is survived by her three sons, Daniel Gould, Laurel; Keith Gould, Laurel; Arlin (Toni) Gould, Laurel; Keith’s children, son, Brian (Amy) – their children, Danica, Leah and Easton; son, Brett, Laurel; daughter, Kacie (Chase) Maier, Creighton, and their children Boone and Cooper; Arlin and Toni’s children, Cheyenne, Chadron, and Dawson, Laurel; Helen’s brother, Marvin (Joyce) Thompson, Lincoln; and two sisters, Arlys (Roger) Withee, Phoenix, Ariz., and Dorothy Kvols, Bellvue, Colo.
