Wynot girls make easy work of Crawford to advance to their 16th State Tourney appearance

AINSWORTH — It was a long trip for both teams, so the Wynot Lady Blue Devils and the Crawford Lady Rams had to meet in the middle at Ainsworth High School to decide who would make a trip to state in 2024.

The Lady Blue Devils punched their ticket to Lincoln as they rolled to a big 65-31 win.

This marks the 14th time in the last 15 years that Wynot has advanced to State.

Wynot burned the nets with 42 points in the first half. Their defense dominated as well, as they forced the Lady Rams into 20 turnovers and held them to single-digit scoring in both the third and fourth quarters.

“The girls had a solid game on both ends of the court,” said veteran Wynot coach Steve Wieseler.

Wynot’s Allison Wieseler led all scorers, hitting 19 of her game high 23 points in the first half. Kayla Pinkelman and Myrah Sudbeck were both a factor in the outcome with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Crawford’s Britney Klein had a solid game for the Lady Rams and finished with a 14-point effort.

The Lady Blue Devils came out on fire. Allison Wieseler would lead the charge with 12 first quarter points. Myrah Sudbeck had a pair of buckets and Kenna Oligmueller drained a three pointer as Wynot raced to a 20-10 early lead.

Britney Klein connected for 6 points and Peyton Osmotherly and Sage Dryer each had a field goal for the Lady Rams.

It was more of the same in the second quarter with the Lady Blue Devils continuing to keep the pressure up, both offense and defense.

Myrah Sudbeck hit twice from the left corner scoring 8 points. Allison Wieseler dumped in 7 more points and Kayla Pinkelman had a pair of offensive rebounds and put backs as Wynot’s 23-11 run boosted their lead to 43-21 at halftime.

Britney Klein hit twice from long distance for the Lady Rams.

The Blue Devils offense slowed in the third quarter. It was led by Kinslee Heimes and Kayla Pinkelman who each hit a pair of baskets.

A bucket plus-one by Jaylee Juhnke and a lay in by Britney Klein was all the offense the Rams could muster. Wynot’s lead ballooned to 54-26. Wynot’s defense continued to be stingy in the final quarter as they held the Lady Rams to just five points. Whitlee Rudloff did hit a three-pointer for the Lady Rams. Wynot countered with five points on the inside by Kayla Pinkelman, four more points by Allison Wieseler and a mid-range jumper by Courtney Pinkelman as the Devils would take the 65-31 win.
