Cedar, Wynot boys and girls teams have booked a trip to Lincoln

VALENTINE — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils have once again earned what has become an annual March trip to Lincoln for the girls state basketball championships.

Wynot defeated the Sioux County Lady Warriors in their District finals Friday.

A big second-half Wynot surge determined the outcome as they outscored the Lady Warriors 34-13 in the final 16 minutes to pull away for the 64-37 win.

Karley Heimes dominated both the inside and outside scoring 19 points to lead all scorers.

Emersyn Sudbeck and Autumn Lawson helped out with eight points each and Edyn Sudbeck and Amber Lawson chipped in with seven points each in a balanced attack.

Kodie Rempp rained in four 3-pointers to lead the Lady Warriors with 12 points and Kailey Klein got nine of her 11 points from the freethrow line to provide offense for her team. Karlee Juhnke helped out with a seven-point effort, as well.

In the opening quarter Sioux County got four points each from Skylar Edmund and Kailey Klein. Wynot got a trey by Edyn Sudbeck and Karley Heimes worked the paint for seven points as Wynot held an early 14-11 lead.

In the second quarter the Lady Warriors got a 3-pointer by Kodie Rempp, a bucket plus-one by Karlee Juhnke and five points from Kailey Klein.

Wynot kept pace with five more points by Karley Heimes, four points by Krystal Sudbeck and a conventional three points by Amber Lawson as they maintained the 30-24 advantage at halftime.

Coach Steve Wieseler’s halftime talk must have worked as the Lady Blue Devils came out breathing fire in the third quarter.

Wynot dominated both ends of the court as they went on a 25-5 run to put this one away early.

A pair of 3-pointers by Emersyn Sudbeck, seven more points by Karley Heimes and six points by Autumn Lawson, along with a trey by Edyn Sudbeck fueled the uprising.

Sioux County was held to a single field goal by Kodie Rempp as the Blue Devils earned a 57-29 cushion going into final quarter.

Reserves mopped up in the fourth quarter. A bucket each by Amy Tramp and Lauren Haberman and some free throws provided the Lady Devils offense. -
