Harvey Gene McConnell

ANDERSON, S.C. — Harvey Gene McConnell, 90, died June 16, 2019, in Anderson, S.C. Military services were held June 24 at M J Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson.

Harvey McConnell was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Aten, to Raymond and Maude (Bingham) McConnell. Harvey was the eldest of eight children. In 1947, along with his brother, Dean, Harvey drove a team of horses from Aten to Coleridge when their parents moved to the Coleridge area. Harvey helped on his parents’ farm; one of his jobs as a child was to place bundled oats into shocks. He completed school to the eighth grade. In 1955, Harvey married Claire Collins and they had two daughters, Valerie and Brenda. Harvey farmed west of Coleridge, before moving to California in 1962. In California, he worked at Miller’s Dairy where he retired, then became a maintenance/handyman. Harvey moved to Fair Grove, Mo., in 1994, for a brief period of time, but returned to California. He ultimately settled in Anderson, in 2003, and lived there until his passing.

Harvey was a PFC in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond “Dean” and Robert John “Bobby;” and one sister, Ramona McConnell.

Survivors include Harvey’s daughters and spouses, Valerie (Mrs. Randy) Case, Snow Camp, N.C., and Brenda (Mrs. Gary) Penland, Asheville, N.C.; brothers, Dale (wife, Bernadette), Fair Grove, Mo., and Mike McConnell, National City, Calif.; sisters, Betty Skalberg, Creighton, and Alice (Mrs. Dave) Heck, Anderson, S.C.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
