Hartington picks up 3-1 win over Crofton to stay unbeaten

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Hartington American Legion Seniors edged Crofton 3-1 in second-round action Saturday to stay unbeaten in the Class C1 Area Tournament here.

Solid pitching dominated this one as neither team was able to plate a runner until the sixth inning.

The first hit of the game didn’t take place until the third inning when Crofton’s Landon Wieseler slapped a single past the Hartington defense. Despite the hit, no one was able to score in the frame, though.

Hartington earned its first hit of the game in the fourth inning when Seth Wiebelhaus grounded into center field, but ended up stranded with the score remained tied at 0-0.

Turner Korth did most of the heavy lifting on the mound for Hartington on the night, putting in six-and-one-third innings.

He gave up just three hits and one run while fanning seven batters. Seth Wiebelhaus got outs from the final two batters of the game for the save.

Hartington finally got on the board in the sixth frame when Wiebelhaus was hit by a pitch to earn a spot on first base. He then turned on the jets and came home on Turner Korth’s single.
