Hartington-Newcastle FFA hosts District Dairy judging contest

HARTINGTON - The Hartington-Newcastle FFA Chapter hosted District Dairy Judging Sept. 26, with 311 students from 14 schools attending including, Battle Creek, Bloomfield, Crofton, Osmond, Lutheran High, Norfolk, Laurel, Hartington-Newcastle, Verdigre, Randolph, Plainview, Stanton and Madison.

The Hartington Newcastle FFA Chapter had a Senior Team, Junior Team and Alternate team competing.

There were ten stations in total.

Five judging classes, included two cow classes, two heifer classes, and a calf class; two question classes over a cow and heifer class, one herd test, and one very long test that had random questions about the dairy industry.

After all the rotations were completed, students ate lunch while waiting for the results. With the down time some fun games of kickball and football were played between schools.

Results were the following: Senior Team placed 1st, with individual placing. Ava Noecker 1st (purple ribbon), Tessa Haahr 4th (purple ribbon), Quinn Hochstein 6th (purple ribbon), and Matthew Loecker 15th (red ribbon); other members of the team included Grayden Hochstein, Joey Steffen, Kassydi Anderson and Hazel Hochstein.

Junior Team placed 1st (purple ribbon), with individual placing Graham Potts 1st (purple ribbon), Ava Stewart 2nd (Purple Ribbon), Breah Steffen 3rd (Purple ribbon), Kaley Lammers 14th (Red ribbon); other members of the team included Maverick Heine, Colton Cavanaugh, Samuel Wiebelhaus and Gavin Klug.

Alternate Team placed 2nd (purple ribbon), with individual placing Easton Hochstein 6th (blue ribbon), Gabriel Reyes 7th (blue ribbon), Wesley Pinkelman 8th (Blue Ribbon), Jacob Kruse 9th (Blue Ribbon) ; other members include Bodie Hochstein, Tansey Kenifl, Memphis Ulrich, Jackson Jones, Henry Zimmerman and Tyson Wiedenfeld.
