Hartington-Newcastle Elementary Band Performs in the Capitol Rotunda

Posted in:

LINCOLN — The Hartington-Newcastle Elementary Band performed in the Capitol Rotunda March 22.

The Capitol performance is used to promote “Music in the Schools month.” After sending in an audition, performances are chosen from a state-wide competition, the HNPS Elmentary Band was selected to perform and Senators were encouraged to attend to support our school music programs.

Senator Tim Gragert, Creighton, greeted the HNPS band, director-Mary Hahne, and principal-Sarah Edwards before watching the band perform. Also greeting the band was Secretary of State Robert Evnen and Senator Mike Moser who also runs a music store in Columbus.

Students were in awe of the building architecture and the echo which made the band sound like a 90-piece band. Spectators commented on the performance of the band, the professionalism and character of the students. The students were the perfect representation of Hartington-Newcastle Public school and Northeast Nebraska. They were so inspired by the experience when they returned home they asked if they could do it again next year.

The performance can be found on HNPS You Tube Channel, HNPS Facebook, and HNPS Twitter account. Band director Mary Hahne appreciates the hardwork of the HNPS students and the assistance of the chaperones, cooks, parents, staff, administration and the school board for helping to make this opportunity possible.
