Hartington City Council tax levy stays unchanged with new budget

HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council Monday approved an operating budget that keeps the tax levy virtually the same as last year.

The tax levy will be .699 this year. Last year’s levy was .700.

A valuation increase for the city of Hartington helped generate an additional $30,000 for the city coffers without having to raise the tax levy, City Auditor Mike Pommer told Council members during Monday’s City Budget Hearing.

The valuation of commercial and residential property inside the city limits of Hartington saw a $4.5 million increase this year.

The valuation was $85,592,631 last year, but that number saw a five percent increase this year, coming in at $90,032,910.

Council members gave their approval Monday to a budget of $3,999,614.72
