Hartington Airport picks up runway funding

HARTINGTON — The Hartington airport will receive $549,000 in federal funding to help pay for runway renovations.

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced the grant last week for Hartington and 286 other airports in 41 states

Hartington Airport Board Authority member Dr. Roger Filips said the funds will go to make runway repairs and for lighting.

In all, 18 Nebraska airports were awarded the federal funding.

Wayne’s airport received the largest area grant, $2.9 million for construction of a new taxiway.

The department is sending Lincoln Airport $360,000 to buy snow removal equipment and $450,000 to update the airport master plan.

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Sioux City’s Sioux Gateway Airport $900,000 for taxiway reconstruction at General Bud Day Field.
