Hartington’s State title bid comes up short

Posted in:

SYRACUSE — A big first game win gave Hartington plenty of momentum at the Class C State American Legion Senior Baseball Tournament Saturday.

That momentum was washed out by a Sunday rain storm and the big bats of Bruning-Davenport-Shickley.

Hartington fell behind early to BDS, but began to rally in the late innings. That rally was abruptly shut down by rain and lightning, though, and the game had to be resumed Monday.

Hartington ended up falling, 8-7, in that contest, then had to turn around just a few hours later and take on Syracuse in an elimination game.

It looked like Hartington had its momentum back in this one, as they led, 3-2, heading into the bottom of the sixth and appeared to have the game under control.

Then the wheels came off.

Max Brammier led off the inning with a walk and Tanner Loecker laid down a bloop bunt for a single to put Syracuse runners on second and third with two outs.
