Girls golf team finishes fourth in season-opener

Posted in:

O’NEILL — The Cedar Catholic girls golf team got off to a good start in its first action of the season Thursday here.

Cedar Catholic fired a 448 to finish fourth in the nine-team opening season invitational.

“Placing fourth as a team is a pretty good place to start the year as far as I’m concerned,” Coach Sheila Jueden said.

Norfolk Catholic out-paced the field to win the team title with a 413.

Battle Creek finished second at 433, followed by Valentine, which carded a 440 team score.

Cedar Catholic was led by Maizie Christensen, who shot a 106 to place ninth.

Boone Central’s Abby Brodersen shot an 80 for a two-stroke victory over Pierce’s Sydney Erickson. Norfolk Catholic’s Anna Kassmeier was third at 83.

Two other Cedar golfers, Hallie Noecker and Delayne Sudbeck, also finished in the top 15.

Coach Jueden said the team is working on its chipping and putting this week to prepare for their next meet.

The local team, which is now a co-op between Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle, will compete Friday at Wayne.
