Frederick J. Burbach

APOPKA, Fla. — Frederick J. Burbach, 89, Apopka, Fla., died at home in Apopka, Fla., April 19, 2021.

A celebration of Fred Burbach’s life was held at Bear Lake United Methodist Church, Apopka,

Burial will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

Frederick was born Feb. 16, 1932, on a farm near Wynot, to Joseph L. Burbach and Dorothy A. Wieseler. He married Lucinda Coulter Burbach June 1987 in Apopka.

Fred Burbach received his Army commission in artillery through the Office Candidate School at Fort Sill, Okla. in 1954. He later became a military intelligence officer, specializing in Latin American affairs, serving three tours in the Panama Canal Zone and one in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Fred commanded the 470th Military Intelligence Group in the Canal Zone from 1971-74. Fred also had one-year tours in South Korea and Vietnam. He retired as a full colonel in 1983 and settled in Maitland, Fla. From 1986-2001, Fred was an adjunct professor in the social sciences department at Seminole Community College (now State College), Apopka, Fla.

Fred is survived by his wife, Lucinda; six children, Mike Burbach, Fairfax, Va.; Mark Burbach, Eustis, Fla.; Jeff Burbach, Oakhill, Va.; Michelle Burbach, Longwood, Fla.; Amy Jensen, Fairfax, Va.; and Susan Stovin, Atlanta, Ga.; half brother, Thomas Burbach, Storm Lake, Iowa; and 14 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Darlene Elaine Peterson, Hawarden, Iowa; sisters, Della Bruns and Leann Uhing; and half sister, Joan Madison
