Former Wynot Village Clerk makes court appearance

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The former Wynot Village Clerk made her first court appearance Wednesday on felony theft charges.

Rose Rolfes, 71, stands accused of Class IV Felony Theft by Deception of between $1,500 and $4,999.

After a special meeting last June Rolfes was dismissed from her job as the Wynot Village Clerk.

Court filings allege that between Dec. 31, 2016, and June 18, 2019, she “obtained property of another by intentionally using a credit card, charge plate, or any other instrument to pay for property or services.”

Judge Douglas Luebbe advised Rolfes Wednesday that a Class 4 Felony carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine

If convicted, Judge Luebbe said, she could also be ordered to pay for any damages.

The Judge set a preliminary hearing in the case for Wednesday, Feb. 5.

A personal recognizance bond was then set.

The bond ruling means Rolfes is not required to post bond, but she would be liable to pay a $25,000 fine if she does not appear to her next scheduled court appearance.
