Five Cedar wrestlers will make State medal podium

OMAHA — Five Cedar Catholic wrestlers will come home from the State Tournament with a medal.

Easton Hochstein and Braeden Kleinschmit were  both undefeated Thursday and are now assured of at least a sixth-place medal at State.

Cedar’s other wrestlers faced elimination matches on Friday. Three of those wrestlers earned wins early Friday, while two were eliminated from State Tournament action.

Maverick Heine stayed alive Friday by pinning Valentine’s Louden Grooms in the first period. Heine then defeated Malcolm’s Cody Barton to advance to the medal round.

In Friday’s action,  Bodie Hochstein earned a 7-0 decision in his 126-pound wrestle back match over Keaton Kloke of David City.  Hochstein then defeated Cole Spahr of Tri County.

In the 144-pound class, Hunter Kuchta advanced by pinning Madison’s Alexander Molina late in the first round in the wrestle backs. He was then sent to the sidelines after an 11-5 loss to Gordon-Rushville’s Kyler Vincent.

Brady Hochstein earned a first-period pin over Elkhorn Valley’s Michael McFarland in his first wrestle back match. He then earned a decision over Yutan’s Jesse Kult to advance to the next round.

In the 175-pound class, Kale Korth was eliminated when Kyler Boyles of Superior earned a first-period pin.
