First COVID-19 death reported in NNPHD Health District

WAYNE — The Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department last week reported the first COVID-19 related death in the health district.

The victim was a resident of Thurston County.

“We are all saddened to hear of the passing of one of our neighbors and our thoughts are with the loved ones they leave behind. COVID-19 is a serious illness, especially for those with underlying health conditions and those aged 65 and over,” said Health Director Julie Rother.

As of Monday night, the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department District had several new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in the health district.

There have been 847 COVID-19 tests reported for people living in the NNPHD Health District of Cedar, Dixon, Thurston and Wayne counties.

The results of these tests include 106 positive cases (Cedar - 7, Dixon - 29, Thurston - 56, and Wayne County - 14), 715 negatives, and 26 tests currently pending results.

The new patients live in Dixon, Thurston and Wayne counties, three females, ages include teens, 20s, and 50s.
