First blizzard of the season shuts down NE Neb.

HARTINGTON — Winter weather made its return over the weekend.

By noon Saturday, three inches of snow had fallen here. That was preceded by a quarter-inch of rain. By the time the snow had stopped falling Sunday around noon, the Hartington area had nearly 10 inches of snow on the ground.

The wet, heavy snow was pushed by winds gusting at over 30 miles an hour at times.

These conditions forced the cancellation or postponement of several area activities, including the annual Cedar Catholic Craft Fair. That event has been pushed back to this Saturday, Dec. 8.

The start of school here was also delayed for two hours Monday morning, giving road crews a little more time to get the country roads cleared off for school buses.
