HARTINGTON — The Hartington American Legion will host the Juniors District Baseball Tournament this year.

Harlington had originally been slated to host the 2020 tournament, but all post-season games were canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s District Tournament is slated to begin July 9 and run through July 12 or 13.

Don Whitmire said he will no longer be coaching an American Legion team because of increased job commitments.

This year’s American Legion Junior team is being coached by Scott Heine, Whitmire said.

The Harlington Seniors will be coached by Ryan Heimes. Whitmire will continue to coach the Harlington Pony team.

The local teams have also switched conferences for the 2021 season.

The Harlington teams are leaving the Elkhorn Valley League for the Ralph Bishop League. Harlington was a member of the Ralph Bishop League years ago. The league includes teams from Laurel, Wayne, Wakefield, Wisner-Pilger, West Point, Battle Creek, Ponca, Pierce, Pender, Tekamah-Herman, and Lakeview.
