Expos earn SCL win over Irene

Posted in:

WYNOT — The Wynot Expos moved to 1-2 early in the South Central League calendar with a 3-1 win over Irene at home last week.

Starting pitcher Jalen Wieseler went six innings and gave up a lone, earned run. “He did a great job coming out and attacking hitters,” Wynot coach

“He did a great job coming out and attacking hitters,” Wynot coach Lee Heimes said. “He did not walk very many batters and used his defense very well.”

Jackson Sudbeck came on in relief and pitched three strong innings to record the save.

“He got ahead of batters early and used his defense,” Heimes said. “Defensively, we made a lot of plays, and we are getting better defensively. We need to continue to get better offensively. Our hitting needs some improvement and we’ve got to cut down on the strikeouts. Also, our base running can get better.”

Wieseler went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in two of the Wynot runs.

“He is seeing the ball and swinging the bat well,” Heimes said.

The Expos played Menno late Sunday and head to Freeman Friday afternoon.
