Errors send Expos to a loss

Posted in:

WYNOT — The Wynot Expos dropped a South Central South Dakota League contest to the Lesterville Broncs, June 1, 14-7, at home.

Errors plagued the Expos the entire night as the Broncs scored six runs in the final two innings to put the game on ice and send Wynot to a 2-3 record on the season.

“We have got to get better defensively,” Expos manager Lee Heimes said. “Things just went from bad to worse.”

After trailing from the beginning — 3-1 after the first inning — Wynot hung around until a four-run sixth frame by the Broncs made it 10-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

The Expos responded with three runs in their half of the inning, but a couple of Lesterville runs in the seventh and two more in the top of the ninth kept Wynot at arm’s length.

Devin Lammers smacked a home run in the bottom of the final frame for the Expos, but it was too little, too late.

Jackson Sudbeck had two hits and Heimes went 1-for-2 on the night with a couple of RBIs.

Dain Whitmire took the loss on the hill. Wynot will return to league action June 11 when the Expos head to Yankton, S.D., to take on the Yankton Tappers.
