Eric Hoesing earns gold at Pierce
PIERCE — Cedar Catholic’s Eric Hoesing earned gold at the always-tough Pierce Invitational here Saturday.
Hoesing’s performance helped the Trojans earn a 15th place finish at the meet.
The wrestling co-op of Randolph and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge finished the day just ahead of Cedar in 14th place.
Hoesing earned five wins on the day — four of them by pin.
He claimed the gold medal by pinning Stanton’s Sutton Pohlman midway through the first period.
Kerby Hochstein finished the day in seventh-place. He was relegated to the consolation round right away after losing his opening round match to Tyson Sauser of Crofton-Bloomfield on a 6-0 decision. He then recorded two pins and earned a 10-8 decision over Stanton’s Damien Erickson.
Keegan Carl, Nash Albers, Cole Steffensen, and Connor Hochstein also competed at the meet for Cedar. Conner Hochstein earned a win when he pinned Crofton-Bloomfield’s Kodiak Suing in the third period. He lost his other two matches on the day, however.
