Emmett Arthur Fluent

HARTINGTON — Emmett Arthur Fluent, 83, Hartington, died Aug. 7, 2020, under Hospice care, surrounded by family at his son Troy’s home in Lawton, Iowa.

Visitation was Monday at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and continued Tuesday, one hour prior to services.

Funeral services were Aug. 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Amanda Talley officiating, and were livestreamed at www. facebook.com/WintzRay/live/. Face masks and social distancing were required for the visitation and funeral.

Burial was at the Hartington City Cemetery, with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post #5283.

Pallbearers were Brittany Filipi,

Taylor Fluent, Morgan Fluent, Autumn Fluent, Max Fluent and Willow Fluent.

Emmett Arthur was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Coleridge, to Floyd and Mildred (Lund) Fluent. He grew up in the Coleridge area, graduating from Coleridge High School in 1955. Emmett went on to serve in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed overseas in Korea. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 30, 1963. Emmett married Patricia Ann Rastede in Laurel, June 5, 1960. They lived in Laurel for six years, then moved to Hartington in 1966, where Emmett has lived ever since. Emmett was employed by Hoesing Brothers Construction from 1955-1964, and then by Radec Construction from 1964-1999.

Emmett enjoyed woodworking, birdwatching and taking care of his lawn and garden. He also spent time camping with his family and taking morning walks with his wife, Patricia. Patricia died Nov. 11, 2017, at the age of 76.

Emmett was often a jokester. He was a very giving person, being very humble at the same time. He gave away lots of apples, pears, and his garden produce to many people over the years.

Emmett is survived by two sons, Todd (Karla) Fluent, Lincoln, and their children, Brittany and Aaron Filipi and great-granddaughters Avery and Adelyn, all of Wilber; and Taylor and Carli Fluent and greatgrandson, Sullivan, Lincoln; and Morgan Fluent, Wilber; son, Troy (Carol) Fluent, Lawton, Iowa, and their children, Autumn, Maxwell, and Willow Fluent, Lawton, Iowa ; two brothers, Don (Betty) Fluent, Lebanon, Mo., and brother, Stewart (Barb) Fluent, Cedar Falls, Iowa; and by his brother-in-law, Tom Rastede, Yankton, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Fluent; and sisters-in-law, Janice Schmitt and Marilyn Rastede.
