Elizabeth Clara Arens

PARKVILLE, Mo. — Elizabeth Clara Arens, 96, Parkville, Mo., died Dec. 11, 2018, at St. Luke’s North Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

Visitation will be Dec. 21, from 5-7 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m., at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, S.D. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Dec. 22, at 10 a.m., at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with Rev. Owen Korte officiating.

Burial will be in the Hartington City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Arens, Vern Arens, Dave Guenther, Larry Guenther, Don Larsen and Raymond Lenzen.

Elizabeth “Betty” Arens was born in Hartington, to John William and Julia Alvina (Peterson) Ward, July 14, 1922. She attended Holy Trinity School, Hartington. Elizabeth married Edmund L. Arens Jan. 2, 1940, in Hartington. They lived in the Bow Valley and Hartington area until 1951. From 1951-1954, they lived in Pickstown, S.D.; 1954-1965 in Manhattan, Kan., and in the Kansas City, Mo., area since 1965. She was a homemaker and her life revolved around her family. Her interests included depression glass, quilting, traveling, playing cards, dominoes and bowling.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, John (wife, Rosie) Arens, Kenneth Arens, Kathryn Adolph, Karen Baker and Dee Etta (husband, Richard) Prentice; 12 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Delores Klima; and many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund L. Arens, June 19, 1983, at the age of 70; daughter, Edna Marie Hand; son, Gerard Francis Arens; twin great-grandsons, Steven Alexander Adolph and Ryan Philip Adolph; mother, father, two brothers and four sisters.
