Elaine H. Hochstein

HARTINGTON — Elaine H. Hochstein, 84, Hartington, died peacefully March 21, 2018, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge. Visitation and a vigil service were March 23 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, and continued Saturday one hour prior to services at church. Mass of Christian Burial was March 24 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers were her seven sons: Dale, Kirk, Neal, Nick, Karl, Glen and Greg Hochstein Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Elaine Helen Mary was born at home in St. James, Feb. 23, 1934, to Florenz and Veronica (Lammers) Burbach. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in May 1952. Elaine married Donald Hochstein June 2, 1953, at St. James. She and Don lived in Laurel from 1954-1960, before returning to the home farm northwest of Wynot. Elaine sold Avon beauty products for 35 years. As a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Wynot, Elaine was an active member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, arranged the altar flowers, and taught second grade religion for many years. They retired in Hartington in November 1992. Elaine was a member of the Holy Trinity Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers, Ministry of Praise and Perpetual Adoration. She moved to Park View Haven, Coleridge, in January 2010. Elaine is survived by her husband Don, Coleridge; 14 children and spouses, Jane and Richard Mehaffey, North Bend; Ann and Lee Shepherd, Rapid City, S.D.; Susan and Terry Hupp, Spearfish, S.D.; Dale and Laura, Wayne; Kirk and Barb, Wayne; Joyce and Roger Paseka, Prague; Nancy and Doug Vrbka, Brainard; Brenda and Doug Hummel, Omaha; Neal and Sharlee, Wynot; Bette and Keith Becker, Hartington; Nick, Wayne; Karl and Carroll, Ankeny, Iowa; Glen and Pam, Seward; and Greg and Stephanie, LaVista; 48 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren; sister, Phyllis and Bill Huinker, Postville, Iowa; brothers, Gary and Cecilia Burbach, Marion, Iowa; Alan Burbach, St. Peters, Mo.; Francis and Colleen Burbach, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and sisters-in-law, Patty Burbach, Parkston, S.D.; Mary Burbach, Marion, Iowa; and Sally Hochstein, Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Russ Michael; granddaughter, Megan Shepherd; brothers, James and Kenny Burbach; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Clovis Weinandt; and sister-in-law, Pam Burbach
