Duane Albert Krueger

BELDEN — Duane Albert Krueger, 91, Belden, died Sept. 15, 2018, at his home in Belden. Visitation was Sept. 23 at Johnson Funeral Home, Randolph. Interment was in the Belden Cemetery, Belden, Sept. 24, with Military Rites provided by Alderson Unit American Legion Post #149, Belden, followed by services at Union Presbyterian Church, Belden, with Rev. Jim and Rev. Kathleen Splitt officiating. Pallbearers were all of Duane’s grandsons, Nicholas Linn, Justin Linn, Chad Krueger, Kyle Moats, Zackary Moats and Adam Wagner. Honorary pallbearers were all of Duane’s granddaughters. Duane was born Jan. 8, 1927, at Wisner, to Albert and Laura (Doeschler) Krueger. He was a 1944 graduate of Belden High School and entered United States Army, serving from 1945 until honorably discharged in 1947, trained as a mechanic. After his military service, Duane worked as a carpenter. Duane married Mary Termuhlen Oct. 16, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Laurel. The couple lived and farmed near Laurel, moving to Belden in 1960. He was employed in the 1960s at Art Bleyl Construction and served as building superintendent and oversaw building of Sunset Plaza in Norfolk. Duane was also employed at Junior Novak Construction in Norfolk. Duane became a self-employed carpenter working for Golden Rod Hills and later became coowner of Trio Builders; also at Vakoc Construction, Wayne. For five years, Kruegers owned and operated a small grocery store in Belden. Duane served as Mayor of Belden for 10 years. Duane and Mary were caretakers at Belden Bank, Union Presbyterian Church and Belden Cemetery for 29 years. Duane enjoyed hunting and fishing. Duane is survived by his five sons, Terry and Judy, Madison; Mike and Sherri, Warner Robins, Ga.; Kenneth and Linda, Pierce; Robert and Lee, San Antonio, Texas; and David and Mikaela, Hastings; and five daughters, Patricia and Bradley Lenhoff, Randolph; Barbara and Jody Linn, Norfolk; Jane and Darien Dunn, Des Moines, Iowa; Mary Jo and Tom Wagner, Norfolk; and Sharon and Curt Moats, Topeka, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Murphy, Oakhurst, Calif. Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Mary, Aug. 28, 2014; son, Alan Dale; grandson, Zachary Pedersen; two brothers, Delbert and Donny; and one sister, Delilah James.
